Half Term fun

It’s Half Term next week and it’s great to spend time together as a family during the break, but we all know keeping the kids entertained can be a tough!  Here are a selection Half Term fun ideas including affordable and free activities and days out in Telford & across Shropshire.  Happy Half Term!

Half Term fun in Telford

Take a look at the Telford & Wrekin Leisure Services holiday activities brochure with lots of activities for just £1, including swimming, tennis, golf, tobogganing, football & gymnastics.  You need to pre-book for many of the activities, so check out the brochure and don’t miss out!

There’s a range of fun crafts and activities in the Telford Town Centre from 18th – 24th February including a Pirates and Princesses day on Wednesday 20th February, Bumper Carz from Monday to Sunday, and a How to Train Your Dragon 3 Competition.

Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom, a small family run zoo located on the outskirts of Telford is a fun day out for all the family.  Its lambing season during February with new born lambs arriving every day.  You can also feed the pigs & deer, meet snakes, tortoise, meerkats, lemur, porkupines and see many other animals (charges apply).

And don’t forget you can get up to 15% cashback if you use your Engage card in shops, cafes & restaurants including Asda, Sainsburys, M&S, Debenhams, Argos, PizzaExpress & Bella Italia.

Half Term fun in Shrewsbury

As part of the DarwIN Shrewsbury Festival there are lantern-making workshops at various Shrewsbury venues during the week and a Lantern Lit Procession on Saturday 23 February through the Attingham Park woodland at night (charges apply).   Also part of the DarwIN Shrewsbury Festival you can become a young Darwin and join Shropshire Wildlife Trust at their Darwin Themes Wild Play for exploration, activities and free play within their wild child garden at The Cut, Abbey Foregate.  This event is suitable for children up to 11 years old and booking is essential.

The Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery is having a Teddy Bears Picnic each day from 18th – 24th February and various other bear-themed activities (charges applicable but under 5s free).

Half term fun across Shropshire

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford offers a fun, entertaining day out for all the entire family, and entry if free.  Situated next to an active airfield, the Museum includes 3 Wartime Hangars housing over 70 aircraft of international importance the National Cold War Exhibition, the world’s oldest Spitfire & a Lincoln Bomber in the War in the Air Collection, and many other attractions.  During February Half Term they have a special Open Cockpits event and will be opening up the Hawker Hunter F Mk.4 cockpit for close viewing and allowing visitors to take a seat inside the McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG1.

From 16th February to 3rd March, visit Park Hall Countryside Experience near Oswestry for their Lambing Live event and see newborn lambs and possibly even a live birth (charges applicable).

Join the National Trust ranger team at Carding Mill Valley to make your own log or pine cone bird feeder to hang in your garden.  Small charge applies but all materials will be supplied – just bring your enthusiasm!

The Harry Hooligans are recruiting potential tribe members at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre during their How To Train Your Dragon activities from Monday 18th – Friday 22nd February 2019.  You will be judged at the end as to whether you will be able to go forward into the Dragon Initiation Program.  Make a horned hat and practice your yelling, start your own ‘Incomplete book of Dragons’ notebook with the dragons that visit Shropshire.  Learn some dragonese (if you swear never to let Gobber the Belch know who you learned it from) & even practice catching sheep launched from a catapult!  Wow! (Charges applicable).

Visit the British Ironworks Centre near Oswestry on Tuesday 19th February for a Magic & Puppet Show when the Treasure Trove Puppet Company will be performing the ‘puppet Parade’- an exciting and colourful show to ignite the imagination of both children and adults alike (charges applicable).

Visit Black Birches Garden Centre at Hadnall, near Shrewsbury,  for a range of drop-in workshops including cupcake decorating, potato stamps and painting, simple Origami and secret messages from 19th – 22nd February.
