Volunteers Week 2019Posted on Jun 01, 2019
Today is the start of Volunteers’ Week 2019, a great week which takes place from 1st – 7th June every year. Volunteers’ Week 2019 is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity, and most importantly a chance to say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK.
Like many organisations, FAIRshare relies on the invaluable help and support of volunteers. Did you know all our Directors are volunteers, and that our School Saver Clubs are run entirely by volunteers?
Volunteers’ Week 2019 is the perfect opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ to each and every FAIRshare volunteer and to thank them all for the fantastic contribution they make to our credit union.
Volunteering is very rewarding and can make a real difference to the local community. FAIRshare is committed to helping as many people in Shropshire as possible, and this is only possible with the help of volunteers and the community.
Why do you Volunteer?
Tim Williams and Phil Freeth both volunteer as FAIRshare Directors, and have been members of our Board for 18 months. Ahead of Volunteers Week 2019 we asked them to share some thoughts on volunteering.
Why do you volunteer?
Tim “I like the organisation and what it does for our community, I like a challenge and I enjoy working with other Board members and FAIRshare staff”.
Phil “To give something back”.
Do you volunteerfor any other organisation?
Tim “Not at present”.
Phil “Yes, I also volunteer for the Royal School Wolverhampton”.
Any advice for someone considering volunteering?
Tim ” Think who you’d like to volunteer for, then pick up the phone and ask!”
Phil “Decide on what youo’d like to do – do you want a busman’s holiday or to explore something completely different?”
Volunteering is very rewarding and can make a real difference to the local community.
