Weston Rhyn School Saver Club is 1!

The Weston Rhyn School Saver Club is 1 year old this week, and what an amazing first year it’s been!

A partnership between Weston Rhyn Primary School, FAIRshare Credit Union and the Three Parishes Big Local, the Weston Rhyn School Saver Club helps children learn about managing money and gives them the opportunity to save.  Launched on 21st March 2017, and open to all children at Weston Rhyn Primary School, a fantastic 27 children have joined the Club so far.

Run entirely by young volunteer Officers from years 5 & 6 under the supervision of Teaching Assistant, Mrs Gilbert, and volunteer, Sarah Fairclough, the Club enables children to develop their maths, literacy and social skills in a real-life environment.  Each year children apply to be Officers, and those appointed work really hard to train with FAIRshare.

In our first year, Officers have processed an impressive 332 saving transactions.  Our great Saving Chart is on display in the School Hall.  Each time a member saves, they add a sticker to our chart – last year we had an amazing Saving Cake, and this year it’s a Fish Tank with pebbles, bubbles, pond weed & fish!

Each week our team of Officers run our Collection.  Afterwards cashiers reconcile their collection trays, the I.T. Officers complete the Collection spreadsheet to send to FAIRshare, and the managers check everything and prepare the cash for banking.  By the time the Officers return to class at 9.10am, they’ve completed a real-life maths workout!

The Club is supported by the Three Parishes Big Local, and in the last 12 months they’ve generously awarded £205 in bonuses to Weston Rhyn School Saver Club members.

The School Saver Club is open every Tuesday at 8:30am – 8:50am in the School Hall and children attending Weston Rhyn School can join at any time.  Simply complete an application form and return it to school – application forms are available from school or can be downloaded from the link below.  There is no cost to join and children can pay in whatever amount they wish. There are no charges for paying in or withdrawing money from the account, and account holders are eligible to receive an annual bonus.

In its first years, members have saved almost £1400 – congratulations to all our fantastic Young Savers and well done to the Officers who run the Club in such a professional, efficient manner!
