International Credit Union Day
Posted on Oct 17, 202274 years of making a difference to communities
On 20 October, we celebrate 74 years of International Credit Union Day. The day marks credit unions’ impact and achievements. FAIRshare is one of over 86,000 credit unions operating in 118 countries across the world, with a total membership in excess of 375million. There are more than 2.1 million members UK wide and yet many people still don’t know the many benefits of belonging to a credit union. We want to share the facts about all credit unions in the UK…
- Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives; providing an effective alternative to for-profit financial institutions
- Credit unions are membership based organisations
- Members have a say in how their credit union is run and may receive a share of the profits (a dividend).
- Ethical banking – your money stays in the community to help local people.
- Credit Unions offer a range of straightforward saving products and fair, manageable loans to members based on affordability.
- To join a credit union you usually need to live or work in a certain area, known as the credit union ‘common bond’.
Everyone who lives or works in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and South Staffordshire can become a FAIRshare member, so why not join your local community bank? Already a member? Why not refer a friend and earn £5 every time a friend joins and starts saving with FAIRshare. Click button for details and terms and conditions…
